Lifeguard Job Description

Purpose Statement: 
The lifeguard will report directly to the Aquatics Facility Operator and Maize Rec Program Director. The purpose of this position is to provide life protection and general safety to persons utilizing the MPAAC pools.  

Essential Functions:
___1. Actively scan assigned bodies of water to prevent and respond to any emergencies that
may occur.
___2. Maintain appropriate physical positioning that allows for maximum visibility of assigned
areas.
___3. Immediately respond to potential and actual emergency situations.
___4. Proactively provide warning and direction to users to prevent emergencies.
___4. Provide emergency medical and/or lifesaving care per your lifeguard certification when
required.
___5. Maintain a neat and orderly pool deck.
___6. Removes foreign objects from pool water.
___7. Assists with opening/closing, setting up and tearing down swimming events, fitness
classes and swimming lessons.
___8. Provides water safety/swimming instruction using the Learn – to Swim curriculum.
___9. Conducts all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Job Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Must be able to communicate verbally.
Highly observant and situationally aware.
Must be a good swimmer.
Must be able to recognize and respond to emergency situations.

Education/Certification:
Certified Lifeguard
First Aid and CPR Certification

Experience:
Must be 16 years of age or older.
Experience as a Lifeguard is beneficial but not required for hire.
Physical Demands, Working Environment
Some heavy lifting of starting blocks and other pool related items.
Working in wet conditions.
Working with common pool chemicals such as chlorine and acids is common.
Generally the job requires lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, kneeling, crouching, stooping, swimming.
The position requires 90% walking and/or standing, and 10% sitting.

Attendance Requirements:




  • Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance/punctuality as required by the Board of Education policies and regulations.


  • Must be regularly available and willing to work such hours as the district determines are necessary or desired.


  • Outside of general shifts, morning, daytime, evening and weekend work hours would be expected as needed. Schedules and time requested off would be based off Director approval.

Current TB test
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Overtime is not permitted unless approved by the employee's supervisor. Otherwise, the
employee may be subject to discipline, up to and including dismissal.

Comments:
This is a joint position offered by USD266 and the Maize Recreation Commission pay range
offered is between $12 - $15 per hour.
